One of GWEN's big selling points was its connection to GW2.
INB4: I'm not saying that was the sole or primary reason that most people bought it, but when you advertise specific things, you become obliged to deliver.

And yet ironically the sales from GW:EN paid for gw2.

You're acting like they just decided to make these rewards last week, this game has been in production for 3 years now, HoM rewards should have been there top priority.

Yes the GW2 link in GW:EN was a smart commercial trick/strategy. (Who doesn't want to see the fruits of all his/her GW years and efforts?!)
And yes they are obliged to fulfill the promises they made concerning the GW2 rewards imo.
However I still have full faith that Anet can and will deliver
Alright, so maybe no heroes, I'm sure we will get some real badass titles and minipets so all my title grinding won't be for nothing.

You also have the right to Deal With It. The exact rewards have always been intentionally vague. If you bought EOTN for the HoM then you were buying into mysterious unknown prizes for a game that could have been canceled by NCSoft.

Anet's responsible for things it says, I just think it's also fair to allow some flexibility. Make a petition or get in touch with developers or people who know them. It's a heck of a lot more useful than this is.

You're acting like they made these promises last week. Wait, you're acting like these were promises, and not just "we plan to do this". Plans change, it's life. That's all I have to say.

Vague? I think they were pretty clear on what the rewards will be.
"Then, when Guild Wars 2 arrives, each of these monuments will correspond to special features your Guild Wars 2 characters can “inherit” from your own legendary past, giving you access to exclusive titles, companions (Heroes and pets), weapons, attire, and miniatures. These inherited items are unique: there is no other way within Guild Wars 2 to acquire them."

No its clearly a promise to the community made at the release of gw:en and even if plans change they made the player base expect these rewards so they could market eotn but moving past that that the HoM is designed to give rewards for gw1 achievements in gw2, the pure fact there announcing rewards soon proves that rewards do exist. Everyone will know without a doubt what the rewards will be "very soon" apparently.

I wonder what type of S Storm would happen if the highest tier is a close beta key:P. Honestly if you are so far in production that they can say what the fluff rewards, then they must be getting beta testing close:P.

The HoM coupled with a few new skills and the PvE only skills made EOTN pretty much a necessity for people that were really into GW. I don't know of many PvE meta builds that don't incorporate the max number of PvE only skills now or something close to it. The HoM was a HUGE selling point for me. Would I have not bought EOTN if not for the HoM? I still would have, but I have been looking forward to finding this info ou for a good long while now and I am very excited to see how it all goes. Will I get mad if its not all I thought it would be? Nope. GW2 looks like it is gonna be a really fun game and that is what it is really all about.

Personally, I'm not concerned about it. My hall's not "full", and it's not likely to ever be full. Not that it couldn't be, but I just can't be bothered.

You're an accountant at NCsoft? Still, it's pretty amazing that they're making GW2 on such a TINY budget, paying the income of some 200+ staffers for about three years solely on the monies made from one game expansion, must be quite the relief for NCsoft, what with their other financial troubles...

^ What Nerel said. There's a reason Anet is a wholly owned subsidiary of NCSoft.

I'm sorry if I came off sounding differently. I don't believe however, that many people will actually buy GW once GW2 comes out for the sole purpose of getting these shinies, so it will still represent a history of achievement for those of us who have them.
|
Actually, I'm almost 100% sure Anet said that the HoM will be closed off to new accounts after GW2 is released. I'll browse around for the link if you guys don't believe me.

Ten Ton Hammer: Will new players be able to go back and play through the original Guild Wars after the release of Guild Wars 2 in order to get those special items in the Hall of Monuments? Or will there be a cut-off point to that sort of content?
Jeff: I don't know exactly what the timing will be, but I will tell you that we aren't going to allow new players to Guild Wars 2 to go back and get those items in the Hall of Monuments. Our intent is to reward players who are playing Guild Wars right now. We have so many people who have stepped up to make Guild Wars successful and have invested so much time into their characters. The whole point of this [the Hall of Monuments] is to reward those gamers. We want to say, "Thanks for playing those one, two, or three years in our original game. We appreciate you guys getting into the game early, and we want to reward you for that."

I remember them saying this, but I can't find the link anymore. The only thing I can find now is them saying the opposite.

Thanks for the link. Avoids the speculation and expected trollings. I do tend to agree that it's fair, or all those "exclusive" items would be on everyone new who wanted them after a couple of years.

The Tentonhammer interview is from 2007, is it still relevant?
We do know that accomplishments dedicated in GW1's Hall of Monuments will continue to update your GW2 account even after GW2's release.
I haven't found a definitive answer on this question yet.

Yes it's from '07. But I see no reason for the philosophy to change. If they do change it, the rage on here and GW2guru won't be pleasant.

Rage? People would still need to complete the same tasks in GW as I did in order to reap the benefits. I don't care if they did it 5 years ago or 5 years in the future.
